Wendy public update for January

Wendy public update for January
Hi everyone. It's actually me, actually Wendy!

I finally feel up to writing my own updates. I wish that this update was full of wonderful news, but it's going to be sort of good news / bad news.

First of all, the good news. Every day I'm getting stronger and feeling better. I've managed to stay out of the hospital for three weeks now, which is a new record for me. It's been more than a month since my last chemo treatment and my body is slowly recovering from the nasty stuff that they gave me. I spoke to Vaughan on the phone last week and I feel mentally ready to come back to work, but I know that physically I'm just not there yet.

The bad news is that I was supposed to have another chemo in mid-January, but my oncologist refused to "assault" me again because the previous two were so hard on me. Every person that goes through chemo expects their blood levels (platelets, hemoglobin, white cells etc) to be impacted, but in my case mine were totally devastated, and dropped to life-threatening levels, resulting in multiple hospital stays and many transfusions. I'm not a good candidate for more chemo at the moment because I had radiation treatments eight years ago and so the marrow in the pelvic bones doesn't work right -- doesn't produce blood products to fight the chemo. I have two other strikes against me in that the chemo drugs are broken down by liver and kidney, and in my case neither one is working at 100%.

I'm hoping for the best. I plan to come into the office to speak to Vaughan and Kathleen sometime in the next week, so maybe I can say "Hi" to a few of you if you're around. I'm usually at home, so if you ever feel like phoning, don't feel shy. The number is 444-0673.

That's all the news I have. I hope to see you soon.
